Study Camera: How to perfectly frame moving images

You love moving images and are interested in framing them perfectly? In the specialization program Camera of the study program Film and Television | B.A. digital cameras and their various opportunities. The specialization takes place during the two semesters of the specialization program, right before your bachelor’s thesis and the final degree. You get all needed conceptual, artistic and technical skills for image and moving picture design. In many practical projects you work closely with our cooperation partners and students from the specialization programs Directing and Production to create exciting documentaries and other fictional formats.
 

Content of the specialization program Camera (selection):

  • Film theory and history: How did camera operation changed during the last decades? Which camera techniques did develop and how are they used in filmmaking? How about the expiration of a film production, did that change over time, too? These questions concerning historical aspects and development of film and camera techniques are discussed in this module. Also, you get an overview of the areas film theory and history. 

  • Dramaturgy: For the specialization program Camera, dramaturgy is very important to frame actors and plot as good as possible. You are going to be using this newly earned theoretical knowledge during the team project at the end of your study program.

  • Film- and video technical skills: In this part of your program you get skills about film and video technology. Besides film recording, this includes also post production of audiovisual media with various editing programs. You learn about the entire process of filming: From the choice of the right camera over shooting to digital post production. 

  • Lighting skills: Set your actors into the perfect light. Lighting can stress emotions during acting and therefore evoke other emotions among the views. How this works and what has to be considered while illuminating a film set will be the topic of this course. 

  • Camera and cinematic content: How do I work with a camera? Which recorded scenes should I use in my film? These questions are answered during the module camera and cinematic content.

  • Technical and creative implementation: The camera works as an interface between artistic implementation and technical conception. In this course you learn how to turn information of the script into audiovisual and moving images.
